Google Fonts
Cloudflare Web Analytics
- SCANDIC ASSETS FZCO,

SCANDIC ASSETS FZCO provides services relating to the technical operation and maintenance of the website. Where it processes personal data on behalf of SCANDIC TRUST GROUP LLC, its activities remain limited to the relevant service, authorised instructions and applicable legal obligations. Each organisation’s responsibility depends on its actual role. Engaging a technical provider does not remove the publisher’s own legal responsibility.
Introduction and scope of this policy
This policy explains what personal data may be collected and used when you access the websites, applications and services of “MADRAS TIMES”, why it is used, to whom it may be disclosed and how long it is retained. Information concerning accounts, subscriptions, orders, newsletters, competitions or events applies only where the relevant feature is actually offered and used.
References to external technologies and platforms do not mean that all of them are active on every page. Additional information required for a particular service is provided when data is collected or an optional feature is activated. Reading this policy or using the website does not, by itself, constitute consent to every form of processing.
The applicable Indian legal framework
India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 and the rules made under it are being brought into force in stages. As at 26 October 2026, the main provisions concerning notices, consent, substantive processing obligations and most individual rights have not yet commenced. Under the notified timetable, their commencement is scheduled for 13 May 2027. This policy therefore does not present those future provisions as rights already in force.
At present, section 43A of the Information Technology Act, 2000, the sensitive personal data rules of 2011, other effective statutory provisions and judicial decisions remain relevant where they apply to the organisation and activity concerned. The arrangements and commitments in this policy do not restrict any available statutory right.
A) General information about personal data processing
Personal data is information that identifies a person directly or can identify them when combined with other available information. It may include names, contact details, email addresses, telephone numbers, IP addresses, user identifiers, payment information and service usage information that can be linked to an individual. Replacing a name with an identifier does not necessarily make data anonymous.
We limit processing to the data needed for the relevant service and stated purpose. Required information is distinguished from optional information.
Processing purposes and applicable grounds
- Requested services and communications: answering enquiries, operating accounts or subscriptions, fulfilling orders and providing features requested by users. Applicable special consent requirements for sensitive data remain relevant.
- Technical operation and security: delivering content, resolving errors, preventing unauthorised access and protecting the website and user accounts against misuse.
- Legal obligations and claims: processing necessary for applicable record-keeping requirements, valid judicial or governmental orders and specific legal claims.
- Optional features and consent: newsletters, personalised advertising, optional analytics and other clearly explained additional purposes. Consent for one purpose does not authorise unrelated uses.
The permitted basis for processing depends on the nature of the data, its actual purpose and applicable law. Business convenience or a general commercial interest does not replace consent required by law.
Sensitive personal data
Under the 2011 Rules, passwords, bank account or payment instrument details, physical or mental health information, sexual orientation, medical history and biometric details used for authentication may constitute sensitive personal data. The Rules’ exception for publicly available information does not remove other applicable privacy or publication restrictions.
Where rule 5 applies, the necessary consent concerning the purpose of use is obtained before sensitive data is collected. Consent may also be given electronically. Collection must be necessary for a lawful activity connected with the relevant service.
Editorial and journalistic processing
Personal information may be used when preparing and publishing news or maintaining journalistic archives. Information may come from public documents, interviews, news sources or material supplied to the editorial team. Such use must respect privacy, reputation, freedom of expression, public interest and applicable publication restrictions.
Being a public figure does not permit unrestricted publication of every aspect of a person’s private life. Similarly, information appearing in a court or other public record does not justify unlimited republication in every circumstance. Considerations relating to journalism do not automatically apply to advertising, customer accounts or reader tracking.
External platforms and their privacy policies
External platforms may process data for their own purposes. An ordinary link generally opens an external website when activated, whereas an embedded image, video or other component may contact an external server as soon as a page loads. Being logged into an external account does not constitute consent to every transfer from “MADRAS TIMES” to that platform.
The following links provide information from the relevant providers. Their inclusion does not confirm that every service is active or available in a particular territory.
- Cloudflare: Privacy Policy.
- X: Privacy Policy.
- Instagram: Privacy information.
- Amazon Alexa, Fire TV and Fire Tablet: Amazon privacy information.
- Google Play, Android TV and other Google services: Google Privacy Policy.
- Facebook: Privacy Policy.
- YouTube: Google Privacy Policy.
- Telegram: Privacy Policy.
- Apple services and devices: Privacy Policy.
- Roku: Privacy Policy.
- Telekom Magenta: Privacy information.
- Huawei: Privacy information.
- Spotify: Privacy Policy.
- Podcasts and audio services available through RTL+: Privacy information.
- TikTok: Privacy information.
Technical data and voice assistants
Retrieving content from a server may generate technical logs. Depending on the feature, these may contain:
- The address of the requested page or file and the date and time of access.
- The volume of data transmitted, the request result and the HTTP status code.
- The IP address, browser type and version, and operating system.
- Technical information about the internet service provider, where available.
- The referring address transmitted by the browser or platform.
Voice assistant providers may process recordings, transcripts or request information according to their services and device settings. The data available to “MADRAS TIMES” depends on the particular service. Using a voice assistant does not automatically mean that complete audio recordings are sent to us.
Additional services and particularly private information
Where reservations, competitions, events or access arrangements are offered, necessary identification, contact, participation and payment details may be processed. Dates of birth, identity documents or health information are requested only for a clear and justified purpose. A complete identity document copy is not routinely treated as necessary.
Where photography, video recording or CCTV is used at an event, information about its purpose and use is provided in connection with the location or service. Collection, authentication or disclosure of Aadhaar information, where relevant, remains subject to its specific statutory restrictions.
B) Contacting us
When you contact us by email, telephone or a contact form, we use your name, contact details, message and relevant attachments to handle the request and respond. Please provide only information relevant to the matter. Without necessary details, we may be unable to fulfil your request.
Contacting us does not constitute consent to advertising. Correspondence is retained while the matter is being handled and normally for no more than 12 months after closure. Limited information may be retained longer where necessary for a specific legal obligation or claim.
C) Reservations, orders and user accounts
Where these services are available, we use the identification, contact, order, subscription, payment-status and account information necessary to provide them. Accounts may also involve login details, selected preferences and security information. Required information is identified when collected; without it, the relevant service may not be available.
Where another provider participates in payment, reservation or delivery, information about its role and processing is supplied with the relevant service. “MADRAS TIMES” does not necessarily receive all card or bank details submitted to a payment provider. Creating an account or making a purchase does not automatically constitute consent to personalised advertising.
D) Accounting and statutory record retention
Business and tax documents are retained under the laws applicable to the organisation and transaction concerned. The general 12-month period does not shorten statutory record-keeping requirements.
- Indian GST records: where section 36 of the Central Goods and Services Tax Act, 2017 applies, relevant accounts and records must be retained for 72 months from the due date for furnishing the annual return for the relevant year. Pending proceedings or investigations may require longer retention.
- Company accounting records: where section 128(5) of the Companies Act, 2013 applies, books of account and related vouchers generally concern a retention period covering at least the preceding eight financial years. This requirement does not automatically apply to a foreign company merely because of its name or the availability of its website.
Data retained for a legal requirement is used only for that requirement and other lawful, necessary purposes.
E) Technical delivery and operational security
Technical data is used to deliver requested content, maintain website functionality, resolve errors and protect against attacks or misuse. Technical providers’ access is limited to what their tasks require.
Our ordinary technical logs are kept for the necessary period, normally no longer than 12 months from recording. Records subject to a statutory minimum retention period are not deleted prematurely. Where the relevant CERT-In Directions apply, requirements concerning 180 days of ICT log retention and availability within Indian jurisdiction are also relevant.
Cloudflare and cdnjs
If technical files are retrieved through Cloudflare’s cdnjs service, the service may receive the IP address, requested file, request time and technical details transmitted by the browser. The purpose is to deliver files supporting website presentation or functionality. The period for which a file remains in a browser cache is separate from a provider’s retention of personal data. Further information is available in Cloudflare’s Privacy Policy.
Google Fonts
If fonts are retrieved directly from Google’s servers, the browser request may transfer an IP address and other technical information. Where fonts are provided through our own technical infrastructure, retrieving those fonts does not require the browser to contact Google. The absence of cookies does not, by itself, establish that a service processes no personal data. Our retention period does not determine Google’s independent retention arrangements.
F) Cookies, device information and tracking technologies
Cookies, browser local storage, pixels and similar technologies may store information, remember settings or transmit usage details. Their effects depend on how they actually operate.
Necessary technical functions are distinguished from optional analytics, advertising and personalisation. Under this policy, optional personalised advertising and consent-based analytics are subject to a prior, clear choice. This is our stated arrangement; it is not a claim that Indian law imposes an identical, separate consent requirement on every cookie.
Information and freely made choices
Before permission is sought for an optional purpose, information about the data, purpose, provider and important retention or transfer arrangements is made available. Preselected choices, silence or merely continuing to browse are not treated as acceptance under our optional consent arrangements.
Rejecting optional purposes or changing preferences should be straightforward. Acceptance of general terms of use does not replace separate advertising or tracking consent.
Our cookies and preference retention
- Cookie and consent choices: information about the last active selection is normally retained for no more than 12 months. If a cookie called “laravel_cookie_consent” is used for this purpose, the same stipulated limit applies. A subsequent visit does not automatically constitute a new consent selection.
- Language preferences: where a session cookie called “language”, or an equivalent cookie, is used, its purpose is to maintain the selected language. Persistent language preferences, where offered, are kept for the necessary period and normally for no more than 12 months.
- New purposes: significant changes to processing purposes or relevant providers require appropriate new information and, where necessary, fresh consent.
Cloudflare Web Analytics
Where Cloudflare Web Analytics is used, measurements may concern viewed pages, loading times, referring pages and technical performance. Cloudflare states that this product does not use cookies, local storage or digital fingerprinting to follow individuals over time for analytics. Technical communication with its servers may nevertheless occur.
According to the provider’s published information, unsampled measurement data is retained for 7 days, and historical data for the previous 6 months is accessible in Web Analytics. These periods do not establish identical deletion periods for all its security or operational records. Where this feature forms part of our consent-based optional analytics, its use follows the relevant selection.
Possible purposes subject to separate choices
Where the relevant features are offered, separate choices may concern:
- Using limited data to select advertisements.
- Creating profiles for personalised advertising.
- Using profiles to display personalised advertisements.
- Creating profiles to personalise content.
- Using profiles to select content.
- Measuring advertising effectiveness.
- Measuring content use and effectiveness.
- Analysing audience groups using statistics or data from different sources.
- Developing and improving services.
- Using limited data to select content.
This list neither confirms that every activity takes place nor grants general permission to process data. Participation in an industry framework, including an IAB framework, does not replace applicable law or appropriate user information.
Settings and withdrawal of consent
You may withdraw consent through available cookie and consent settings or by writing to [email protected]. Where an “Essential only” option is available, it selects only necessary functions.
Withdrawal stops the relevant further processing based on that consent. It does not change the status of processing previously carried out lawfully. Limited information may continue to be retained only for necessary legal or evidential reasons. Deleting cookies through your browser provides additional control but does not always communicate withdrawal to every provider concerned.
G) Recipients and international transfers
Data is made available to other recipients only for a defined, permitted purpose and to the necessary extent. Recipients may include technical providers, providers involved in payment or another requested service, professional advisers under confidentiality obligations and public authorities empowered by law.
Where the 2011 Rules apply, disclosure of sensitive data follows the relevant prior permission, lawful contractual arrangement or applicable legal requirement. Governmental or judicial requests must have the appropriate statutory basis and follow the relevant procedure.
Possible recipients
- SCANDIC ASSETS FZCO, United Arab Emirates: technical assistance and the authorised access necessary to provide it.
- Cloudflare, Inc., United States: technical delivery, security or the described analytics where the relevant Cloudflare services are actually used.
- Google and relevant service providers: according to the use of external fonts, YouTube or another Google feature. The relevant organisation and processing locations depend on the service information.
- LEGIER Beteiligungs mbH, Germany: relevant contact and order information where its involvement is necessary for a particular advertising or commercial enquiry. Commercial cooperation does not authorise general access to all readers’ data.
Ukraine, the United Arab Emirates and other countries
SCANDIC TRUST GROUP LLC has the address stated above in Ukraine, and SCANDIC ASSETS FZCO has its address in the United Arab Emirates. Depending on the service, data may be processed outside India or accessed remotely from another country. Remote access by a separate foreign organisation may be relevant to transfer requirements, as may the use of foreign servers.
Required transfer safeguards
Where rule 7 of the 2011 Rules applies, the recipient must ensure the same level of protection required by those Rules, and the transfer must be necessary to perform the relevant lawful contract or have the individual’s consent.
Service arrangements address purpose limitations, confidentiality, security, authorised access and return or deletion of data. A provider’s general policy or certification does not, by itself, satisfy every requirement for a particular transfer. Information about the relevant country, recipient and safeguards may be requested at [email protected].
Future transfer restrictions under section 16 of the Digital Personal Data Protection Act will take effect according to the commencement of that provision and relevant notifications. Other applicable sectoral restrictions and data-localisation obligations remain relevant.
H) Retention periods and deletion
Our normal maximum retention period for our ordinary operational data is 12 months, calculated from the point specified below. Data is deleted earlier when no longer needed, provided no mandatory retention period applies. Longer retention is limited to what is necessary for an ongoing service, a specific legal requirement, a concrete legal claim or a justified journalistic purpose.
- Enquiries and correspondence: while the matter is being handled and for no more than 12 months after closure.
- Accounts and contracts: while needed for an active account or ongoing contract; necessary remaining data is normally retained for no more than 12 months after termination.
- Technical logs and our usage records: normally no more than 12 months from recording, subject to applicable statutory minimum periods and requirements concerning specific security incidents.
- Cookie choices: no more than 12 months from the last active selection. Withdrawn consent does not become effective again because part of that period remains.
- Evidence of consent, withdrawal and marketing objections: normally no more than 12 months after the relevant process ends. A minimal, restricted record may be kept longer where necessary for a legal obligation or to respect a continuing preference not to receive advertising.
- Newsletter subscriptions: for the duration of the subscription; necessary remaining information is normally kept for no more than 12 months after it ends, subject to the limited exceptions above.
- Accounting and tax documents: for the applicable statutory periods described in section D.
- Journalistic material and archives: for periods justified by lawful journalism, documentation and public interest. This does not authorise indefinite retention of ordinary reader or advertising data.
- Data held by independent external providers: under the separate arrangements for the relevant service. Our period neither extends a provider’s shorter period nor controls its independent processing.
Deletion is reflected in backup arrangements as well as active systems. Temporary backup copies remain separated from ordinary use and are removed through the applicable replacement cycle. Previous deletions and restrictions continue to be respected if data is restored.
I) Your information, choices and rights
Your particular legal rights depend on the applicable provisions and the nature of the data. Under the current framework and this policy, the following requests may be made:
- Information: asking for an explanation of how your data is used, the purposes, relevant recipients and retention arrangements.
- Review and correction: requesting review of information you supplied and correction of inaccurate or incomplete information where rule 5(6) or another applicable provision grants that right.
- Withdrawal of consent: withdrawing permission for consent-based processing. Where applicable rules require written notice, a request may be sent by email.
- Rejection of optional processing: requesting that optional advertising, personalisation and consent-based analytics stop.
- Deletion requests: requesting removal of data that is unnecessary, improperly retained or otherwise subject to deletion. Applicable retention duties and lawful journalistic or judicial limitations may be relevant.
- Complaints and legal remedies: using available complaint or judicial procedures concerning misuse, unauthorised disclosure or infringement of relevant rights.
Upcoming rights under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act
Rights under sections 11 to 14 concerning processing information, correction and erasure, grievance redressal, and nomination of another person to exercise rights following death or incapacity will become available when those provisions commence and their statutory conditions are met. Under the current notified timetable, these provisions belong to the group scheduled to commence on 13 May 2027.
Objections to advertising and direct marketing
You may tell us at any time that you do not wish to receive further advertising messages, without giving a reason. Consent-based marketing and related optional profiling are stopped in accordance with the relevant choice. Necessary service, security or payment communications are kept separate from consent to receive advertising.
Requests concerning journalistic content
When raising a concern about personal information in an article or other content, please provide the relevant URL, the disputed details and the reason for your request. Correction, updating, masking, deletion and removal from search results may have different legal consequences. Applicable court orders, privacy, freedom of expression, open justice and continuing public interest are relevant.
The appearance of a name in an old report or judicial record neither creates an automatic right to deletion in every case nor justifies unrestricted name-based searchability in every circumstance.
Making requests and response periods
Send requests to [email protected] or the postal address at the beginning of this policy. Where there are reasonable doubts about identity, only necessary additional verification may be requested; a complete identity document copy is not automatically required.
Under this policy, we respond to ordinary requests without unnecessary delay and normally within one month. Where rule 5(9) of the 2011 Rules applies, the grievance covered by it must be redressed within one month of receipt. Other applicable special deadlines remain relevant. If a request is not fully accepted, reasons and available options are explained to the extent permitted by law.
Complaints and competent authorities
In an appropriate case, a complaint or claim for compensation may be brought before the competent Adjudicating Officer under section 46 of the Information Technology Act. Remedies before competent courts, consumer commissions or, in criminal matters, the police and cybercrime authorities remain available subject to their respective conditions.
The Data Protection Board of India has been established, but the statutory procedure for general personal data complaints depends on the relevant commencement provisions. Establishment of the Board does not mean that all complaint procedures concerning rights not yet in force are already operational.
Cybercrime reporting: www.cybercrime.gov.in.
J) Personal data security
Access controls, confidentiality measures, secure communications, backups and other appropriate technical and organisational safeguards are used according to the nature of the data and relevant risks. No technical environment can guarantee the complete elimination of every risk.
Where the CERT-In Directions apply, notified categories of cyber incidents must be reported within six hours of noticing the incident or being informed of it. Necessary information is provided to affected individuals according to applicable law, the incident and appropriate protective needs. Separate breach-notification deadlines under the future data protection rules will apply when those provisions commence.
K) Data protection disputes
This policy does not restrict available complaint procedures, judicial protection or compensation provided by law. Competent consumer commissions retain their jurisdiction over relevant consumer disputes.
Initial assistance is available from the National Consumer Helpline on 1915 or through consumerhelpline.gov.in. This assistance does not replace a binding decision of a court or consumer commission.
L) Relevant Indian legislation and judicial decisions
The following provisions are relevant according to their subject matter and commencement status.
Indian legislation and rules
- Constitution of India: protection of privacy and dignity under Article 21, together with freedom of expression and its constitutional limitations under Article 19.
- Information Technology Act, 2000: particularly sections 43A, 46, 70B, 72 and 72A, where the relevant conditions concerning security, compensation, incident reporting or breaches of confidentiality are met.
- Information Technology (Reasonable Security Practices and Procedures and Sensitive Personal Data or Information) Rules, 2011: privacy information, sensitive data, collection, disclosure, transfers, security and grievance redressal.

M) Additional information about particular services
Newsletters and advertising messages
Where a newsletter is offered, its subject matter, use of data and relevant distribution provider are explained before subscription. Our subscription newsletters and optional advertising emails require an affirmative choice. Providing an email address for another purpose does not automatically grant that permission.
You may unsubscribe through the link in the message or by contacting [email protected]. Individual tracking of message openings or link activation, where used, is subject to separate information and any necessary permission. Applicable telecommunications rules must also be observed for promotional SMS and calls.
Embedded content, social platforms and affiliate links
Video or audio players, social platform components and other external content may transmit IP addresses, device information, page addresses and interactions to their providers. Transfers may occur even without an account with the provider. If you are logged in, the provider may associate activity with your account.
A link to an external privacy policy does not replace our own information or necessary consent obligations. Receiving commission from an affiliate link does not independently authorise tracking a reader.
YouTube
Where YouTube content is embedded, its preview image as well as its player may be retrieved from Google or YouTube servers. Technical information may therefore be transferred before playback starts. Additional cookies or similar technologies may be used after player activation. The actual effects depend on service settings, region and whether you are logged into a Google account.
External content included in our consent-based optional arrangements is activated according to the relevant choice.
Examples of cookies and durations published by Google
- YSC: the browser session; security-related purposes.
- Secure-YNID: normally 6 months; YouTube functionality and related uses.
- PREF: 8 months from last use; playback and presentation preferences.
- SOCS: 13 months; remembering cookie choices within Google services.
These are examples published by the provider, not confirmation that every cookie is set on every visit. Their durations do not establish retention periods for all Google account or server data. Further details appear in Google’s information about cookies.
Profiling and automated decisions
Personalisation may involve inferring interests from viewed content, identifiers or interactions. Where the relevant feature is offered, its purposes and choices are explained. Profiling does not automatically authorise decisions producing legal or other significant effects for an individual.
If an automated system’s decision significantly affects your service or interests, you may request an explanation and consideration by a person. This contact arrangement is a commitment under this policy; applicable statutory rights operate separately.
Children and young people
Children’s information requires particular care and clear, age-appropriate explanations. Applicable restrictions on disclosing the identities of children or protected victims are respected. Parents or lawful guardians may contact us about inappropriate collection or use of a child’s information.
The Digital Personal Data Protection Act defines a child as a person under 18. The special obligations under section 9, including verifiable parental consent and relevant restrictions on tracking or targeted advertising, subject to applicable exceptions, will operate from their notified commencement. Under the current timetable, this is 13 May 2027. This age definition does not create a general prohibition on reading publicly available news.
Changes to this privacy policy
This policy may be updated when services, data use or legal requirements change. Before data is used for a new purpose, necessary information is provided and fresh consent is obtained where required. Continuing to use the website does not automatically accept new optional processing.
Withdrawal of consent is not limited to a two-week period. Questions and requests concerning this policy may be sent to [email protected].
